It will be more prominent than usual if you overfill it, or even if you just refilled it. 1soap it up take a bar of soap with an aroma that you particularly like and rub it up and down both sides of the zipper. Some are better than others, and some, like alcohol, aren't worth the trouble.

there is always the lighter fluid smell. zippo lighters are notorious for needing regular refilling. we would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. The fuel evaporates from the cotton regularly. Keep up with proper wick and flint. the most common reason is overfilling it. Sure, there's a slight whiff once i extinguish the zippo.
